#1

I define Reno as where I reside during the school year. I’m not from here; I call somewhere else my home. However, I do live in this “Reno” neighborhood for right now. I define my neighborhood as the University and maybe the surrounding area stores and parks. From Mackay Stadium down to Walgreens and from the LLC to the Davidson Math and Science Center, that’s my comfort zone. My close-knit neighborhood would have to be the LLC building. That’s where all my connections are with my peers. I have defined my “neighborhood” based on my familiarity with areas. However, as my familiarity broadens, then I will be familiar with multiple neighborhoods, but will not call them all mine. My neighborhood has all I need, except for when I need to make the occasional trip to the grocery store. I rely on a different neighborhood for that amenity. I have gone to the grocery store once, but I could not tell you where it was. All I know is that we left campus, and it was far enough away that we needed to drive there.

I decided on my route based off of where my classes are so I wouldn’t get too lost (driven by familiarity). I have not yet explored the School of Medicine way up in the northeast corner of campus. Of course, my route was also determined by terrain; I didn’t feel like jumping over bushes or railings. I opted for the paved paths and staircases. I did dare to walk across the Quad, instead of around it.

I am pleased with my neighborhood and where I am residing now. I feel safe and comfortable, especially in the LLC, and I have been able to befriend a lot of people, which has made my transition to this new neighborhood much easier.
